Hey, if some of you guys are having trouble finding "The Black Cat" online this might help ya out. http://www.online-literature.com/poe/24/
Is the black cat actually suppose to be symbolic. Like it's really the diseases his wifes got? And he tries or wants it to keep away from them but in the end he can't do anything about it? ....or am I way off? :)

This weekend
Hey Loves!
I'm sure today went fine, but just in case you do not finish the Nature essay, bring your book home!
Also, set your clocks back an hour and get an extra (deserved) hour! Don't show up at 6am on Monday!

Devil and Tom Walker
OH MY GOODNESS I am soooo frustrated with our school's computer system...
If you want to find Devil on your own, go for it, it's all over online...however, I can upload it when I get to a functioning computer in about an hour.
Thanks for your patience!

MIDTERM
To reiterate what I said today:
You have TWO options for taking your midterm exam.
TODAY (Wednesday) was the only review session.
You may take the midterm:
TOMORROW, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27th at 7AM and not come Friday.
OR
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28th at 7AM and not come tomorrow (Thursday).
You have received all the notes/information necessary to be successful. Look back at the content of your midterm notes and find corresponding guided notes, study guides, etc...if you have additional questions.
IF YOU WANT, ASK ME A QUESTION ON HERE UP UNTIL 9 O'CLOCK AND I (OR A CLASSMATE) WILL ANSWER IT!!
GOOD LUCK!

Homework for Monday 9/26 (if you don't finish)
HOMEWORK for 9/26 (weekend homework)
Here is the TEXT:
The Crisis TEXT
As young scholars, this should be FASCINATING to you! This is the basis for all American persuasion, including the advertisements, movie trailers, political speeches and campaigns you see every day...everything you hear and read can indirectly be attributed to people like Thomas Paine...this stuff is UNBELIEVABLY, undeniably SATURATED in rhetoric and persuasion..just think, it made all patriots wage war, and everyone on the fence decide to revolt against England as well. What have you done lately? Can you even effectively persuade me to give you a homework pass???
Friday, 9/23
Hi, my LOVES!!
I am not feeling well and am super stressed about my upcoming wedding...before I get so sick that I'm snot-faced and red-eyed at my "I Do's," I am taking today off to rest and sort out the chaos.
Be ULTRA-nice to Ms. Walker, your substitute (as if I have any doubt that you will be).
1. You have a vocabulary quiz that I've made "kind of" easy (by splitting it up into 'chunks'...eww, gross word).
2. After this, you are to read "The Crisis" by Thomas Paine and complete the corresponding study guide, identifying persuasive appeals and basic rhetorical devices. Here's the deal:
-In each box, you could easily identify 10 different specific instances...give me at least 5 or 6.
BTW, an APHORISM is a saying about life...something you'd find in a fortune cookie...I'll give you one...
Thomas Paine says, "What we gain to cheap, we esteem too lightly"....what does this mean?
FOR PERSUASIVE APPEALS:
In each box, you can either give me concise example from the text, or actually QUOTE the text, including page numbers (for instance, T.Pain tells a story about listening to a guy outside a pub talking about wanting "peace in my day." T.Pain talks about how selfish this guy is because his 8-year old kid is standing right next to him...this is hugely PATHOS and ETHOS...write these instances down!)
FOR RHETORICAL DEVICES:
- Put specific quotations with page numbers...if it's long, throw ellipses (...) in btw. phrases.
YOU CAN DO THIS....it's advanced, because you are SUPER ADVANCED! I wouldn't give you this if I didn't think you were intelligent enough to handle it :)
COMMENT OR ASK ON HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS...DON'T JUST NOT DO IT, YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE TO BE CONFUSED!

why flamingos are pink!

Flamingos are pink and orange depending on the food they eat. They eat algae and crustaceans that contain pigments called carotenoids. Most pigmets are found in shrimp and blue-green algae that birds eat. The enzymes in the flamingos break down the carotenoids into pink and orange and are deposited into their feathers and legs. This is why flamingos are pink.
