It is so peaceful, quiet. I always got some things to do at this time so I am only enjoying this time... No barking, voice... It is actually nice to be in silent place. I do think we are exposed to many things. Way too much visual, hearing. Sometimes, people need to enjoy nature......

On September 11^th 2001 I was in the second grade and all I knew was that I was getting out of school early that day for some reason. It didn’t meant much of anything to me then, but when I think about that day every time it rolls around I stop and about, yes how terrible it was and how sad it is that all those lives were lost for nothing, but I also think about how quickly this nation came together. At that moment there were no blacks, whites, Mexicans, Asians, there were AMERICANS. It didn’t take much more that about 2 weeks before people got back to the usual way of life but for those few day gave a glimpse of how great this nation would be if we all thought of our self’s as Americans.

When reading One Day, Now Broken In Two has showed me a different view and way someone felt about 9/11 besides me. I hadn’t really thought of the fact someone’s birthday could be not such a happy day as she describes it. For being on the date of 9/11.This day was very tragical and had an impact on all of us as a country. On this day many moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas where lost. This fills me up with sadness just to think what their relatives felt when they where given this horrible news. Some people just go one with life like nothing has happen as if this didn’t impact their life’s in anyway while others remember how the U.S was attacked on 9/11 and all the life’s that where lost. But this day in my opinion changed are life’s forever it showed us how we should be more alert and aware of are surroundings and what could happen in are near future. We should all learn from this in a way to see how important are safety should be in this country. How we should prevent and monitor any possible threats against us civilians and any possible future tragedies.

Yes their can be another 9/11 .There are people out their that hate us for some reason. I don’t see why innocent people would have to die just based on hate or other reasons.No one should have the right to take away anyone's life.

Anna Quindlen’s One Day, Now Broken in Two is a very touching article. It brings back devastating memories to all Americans and takes you back to 9-11. I remember being in Elementary School on 9-11, I got checked out but didn’t really know what was going on. Got home and watched the news for hours with my Grandparents and the only thing I remember is that picture of the twin towers with smoke pouring from them. I feel that 9-11 should never be forgotten, but people shouldn’t live with regret about it. It is over and there is nothing we can do about it except learn from our mistakes and try to prevent anything like that from happening again. I did not know anyone that was killed in this tragedy so I probably cant relate to someone that did. I think that September 11th is just as good as any day there is unless you look back and think about the tragedy. My Aunts birthday is on September 11th and I always enjoy that day cause we have a cook out with the whole family. I try to think about the good things in life that make you happy, not the bad things that make you feel sad.

Baby steps.

I read this yesterday and have written,deleted and written again about it.I tossed and turned all night trying to think of a way to express my feelings towards this article.This article is quite hard hitting,definitely not something you come across everyday.I found it interesting to hear that Big Boy Sam's dad's birthday was also on September 11th. I remember ,like most of you, being in class as a 10 year old [I believe] listening and watching this shape our very history. As I look back on it,I don't mourn the death of those who have sacrificed their lives in this war. Ive had one family member go serve in this war and he now has Post dramatic Stress disorder,something he and my family will have to live with the rest of our lives. Looking at the sacrifices made during these past few years, I find it more appropriate to convey the sacrifice millions of people have,will,and now make. I think of my parents,my ancestors,leaders of human kind, pioneers of our very societies,and myself. I think of all of the people who die everyday,the people who are murdered,kidnapped,harvested for organs,trafficked by mongrels, suffer of illness and loss. 

"Who are we now? A people who manage to get by with the help of the everyday,the ordinary,the mundane,the old familiar life muting the terror of the new reality."

That quote has made me think of how self centered I myself have become.How ignorant we sometimes are  to the things happening in this abyss like world. We overlook so much in so little time.People are dying let and right and we have no idea. We are blinded by our routines to the happenings of reality and our surroundings. However, this does not mean we must mourn at all times,in all things,and in all places.We should be grateful is what this article essentially portrays. Instead of being busy all the time, we should stop and think.We should love diversity and our neighbors. I may sound preachy but in all honesty good things become good karma which lead to greater gifts.
Life does go on,unfortunately, but we should strive to make the best of our time on this earth as humans,citizens and minds.Instead of celebrating or emphasizing a day to remember all of those who have died and continue to,lets be the best that we can in all aspects of our lives.If there IS anything beyond this life,I'm sure those who have passed want to see us progress from history instead of mope and cope with loss.
When I die I dont want people to cry,I want people to be happy that they're alive,that they still have time to better their lives,to not waste time and show effort as well as consideration to the more important things.
On Lucas' comment of him stereotyping the man on his flight,I am appalled by the simple idea of people chastising those who fit those profiles as terrorists or bombers. If you know anything about me,you know my family is something else.We range from Catholics,Jews,Mormons,Muslims,and Atheists to French,Austrian,Hindu, Hispanic,and Italian. Nothing of the ordinary "family". So does that mean that I should "despise" my Middle Eastern family because they cant control the decisions their leaders force them into? Why blame a whole population for the mistakes of a few? Why insult a whole intelligence due to ignorance? Why? That's the question. The answer isnt in me,its different for all of us based on our perspectives.
I wish I had the answer to all the problems in the world but I don't. I'm one person who can impact the lives of millions but a group of people can change the lives of billions.The idea of bad day HAS changed.We should always be prepared for the unexpected no matter how unlikely it may be.
We never know.Life and time goes by.As well as people.

While reading this article many thoughts came to mind. 9-11 was one of our countries greatest downfalls. Many people perished during this horrible ordeal. But as I read the article I thought to myself, “ Yes this was a horrible day, but we can not live our lives in fear.” We need to move past the terrible things that have happened. If you go on thinking of all the bad things that could happen to you , you will miss the good things in life that are right in front of you. If this had never of happened we would not think of 9-11 as a tragic day and live that day as we would live tomorrow. You have to move past things and concur your fears. I totally agree that there should be a memorial for the day to show respect to the people who died and there families. But life goes on and that day has passed that’s all you can say about it you cant go back and change the past what’s done is done and now its time to move on.

September 11, or 9-11?

This article is an extremely interesting way to view the trajic incident 9 years ago.

I too, remember that day. I remember being picked up early from school. I remember my mom crying all day and listening to the news and radio. I remember going to dance class and still being slightly unsure of what any of the day's events meant. I was what, 7 years old at the time? I was old enough to understand what happened was bad, and old enough to know it was big, but unsure of what it all meant or what was to happen next.

The aftermath of 9/11 was rough. I watched the news more for the next few months after that than I ever have in my life. I wanted to know what was happening. I saw the families cry and mourn about their lost husbands and wifes, sons and daughters,friends and cousins. It upset me. To have a family member or loved one be taken away from you so instantly, without warning, in such an unfair way is awful. I have to admit, for awhile, i was guilty of loving my family a little more.i let them know more often. I was scared soemthing could happen. Im still terrified. I think about the incident alot,actually. Every time i board a plane ( which is quite often) I think about those passengers. I know that when those innocent people boarded that plane, they had no idea that they would be dead soon. The fear they must have felt when they realized they only had minutes left in their lives. When I go through security at an airport, as much as I hate it and dread having my shampoo and perfumes being thrown away, I am so thankful our country takes those kinds of precautions. Id rather be safe then have my life or my family's taken.



Our country has moved on. We have one day dedicated to mourn and think about the trajedy that changed so many peoples lives. The families of lost lives, widows of the accident, fatherless children, they have to live with that every day. They had the lives of their loved ones taken away so instantly and so harshly. When my father died a few years ago, I had weeks warning and im still not over it. I never will be. Those people didnt have that warning. Their lives were changed in seconds. and our country thinks about those people one day a year. They deserve everyday. there should be a moment of silence everyday, i think. At the exact time of the accident. Schools, businesses, restaurants, and stores. Everyone in the nation should stop and take a minute to think about the lives that were lost, and the families who will never see their loved ones again.

When you read this article it really hits you hard. The biggest thing that is talked about if the fact that there are to sides. One is the people who are connected to the event by losing family or people that they knew and the other are the people like me that feel horrible about the event but have moved on because we have no connections to this event. Its not that i don't care about the people that died in the twin towers its just that i can only relate to it by videos and the spoken stories about it. On the day of the attack i was sitting at my elementary school. I can barely remember anything from that day. I don't even think i knew what was going on. This is because i had no connection to it. I can say that i have never known anyone who has died in an event like this until a week ago when Lance cpl. Ross Carver died in Afghanistan. I knew him through ROTC. Even though he was not in high school when i was he would come through and used to help us at some of our parades and drill meets. Now i know what it feels like to lose that neighbor or to lose that friend in 9/11. I saw somewhere that Katrina had about the same number of casualties that 9/11 did and they asked why didn't Katrina get a day for itself if it killed so many. The reason for this is because unlike Katrina we were attacked. This event was the last straw for us and it put the war into motion. This is just like world war 2. i bet anything that on December 7th, 1950 people that had lost loved ones in Pearl Harbor were still grieving over them and the people that didn't lose anyone in the event felt horrible when it was mentioned. In a documentary ive seen, a world war 2 veteran said that "it wasn't like world war1, we were attacked" and this is why this event is so much more memorable than Katrina or any others.

In my opinion, I believe that 9/11 is as important as any other appreciation day. But then again i'm skeptical about my opinion. Yes, its an important date for our country, because many loved ones had died. I wish we didn't have terrorists, maybe this wouldn't have happened to all these innocent people, and polluted our air more than for a week.
But in my defence there are many events that took place just as important as this. yet no one announced those dissaster. many other deaths are just as important to us as they were to the other citizens. unfortunately it seems that our loved ones aren't as important to be announced like the ones that had suffered in 9/11 for what? For they didn't die in a plane crash? For they weren't in one of the Twin Towers, and were destroyed in the crash? I don't agree it's right to show more attention to those who had died in this tragedy than to any other death that meant a great deal to us. If we had made a day for that special event why cant we make a date celebrating all deaths. Similar to the hespanics taditional holiday called "The day of the Dead"?

When I think of 9/11 I feel anger at those who piloted air planes into the towers in New York City. I cannot begin to understand how anyone could feel they are doing a favor for their country by taking innocent American lives. One positive outcome from 9/11 is the fact that airports and airplanes are safer than ever from terroist threats. Prior to 9/11, Americans took airport safety for granted but 9/11 made us realize that was not the case. Even though it comes at a great inconvenience, our airports are now are much safer than pre 9/11.

I didn't know anyone who was harmed by the attack on the twin towers but I feel extreme sorrow for those who lost family members and freinds. I can't begin to imagine how I would feel if my dad or mom had been working in Mahnattan or traveling on any of the planes at the time of the attack. Some people are still very concerned that 9/11 is going to be repeated in some way, shape or form and I am sure that it will. Unfortunately, it is relevant that history has and always will repeat itself. I just hope that we as a country will be able to stop an event like this from occurring again in the United States.

Ever since the two 767 airplanes hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, that's all that would come to mind whenever I heard that date. That date also happens to be my cousins birthday. Now two things come to mind: his birthday and that horrible event. This relates to the article because her son's birthday is on 9/11 as well. I agree with what she is saying because some people just remember it as a horrible day in history and go on with their lives and others keep reliving that nightmare each year because they have lost a loved one on that terrible day. She is right when she says this day is split into two. As for me it's my cousins birthday and a horrid memory. I wish it didnt have to be that way. When I tell people that it's his birthday all they say is "wow that sucks" or something along the lines of that. Why can't they for once just say "oh thats nice." Only because some stupid terrorists had to fly two planes into those towers. I don't think that you can divide life into the "mundane and the monstrous" because some people can move on and live their lives. She says that "That is the way we have to live, or we cannot really go on living at all." I don't agree with this because people can go on. This tragedy happened so we could learn from it. This is an event that will haunt Americans forever, but we don't have to live in the past, we have to innovate for the future. There can be another 9/11 any second, minute, or hour of each day. We just have to learn from our mistakes to prevent it.

When I think about 9-11, on any other day, I don’t usually think of the “attacks” on the two marvelous towers. To tell you the truth, the only time I think about September 11th, is on September 11th. The only people that would think about it everyday would be people and families that lost someone, or people whom the day has a significant meaning to them such as an Anniversary or a Birthday. I understand the compassion some Americans show for our great country but most people only care about September 11th, on September 11th. I personally think that “real” Americans are the ones that fight for our country every day and put their lives on the line, not the ones just living to live. I don’t think that it is bad to care about this day but I think that remembrance of it should not be once a year, but many times a year, such as everyday. Everyday Americans should remember the men and women that died in the attacks, and also the Special Forces that helped out with the aftermath. We should not remember the bad things about the day, but give praise for those who did everything they could to help and those who survived.

Why does this certain “disaster” get a day named after it? Katrina hit on August 29th, so why isn’t this day now called 8-29? The total death tolls were close, and Katrina affected more people, physically, than 9/11.

September 11th or 9/11

Whenever the date September 11th comes rolling around the first thing i think of is my dad's birthday. Yes. September 11th is my dads birthday. I remember being in Mrs. Keys class in the 2nd grade when we all found out about the tragedy that just happened. The whole day for me was focused around my dads birthday...not anymore. The only thing anyone could talk about for the next couple weeks was 9/11. I feel like my dads birthday got cut short that year, and it was just a shame it happened on his birthday. I agree with the article because the women writing the articles sons birthday just happens to be on September 11th as well. I did not have anyone affected physically by the tragedy of 9/11, so i do not feel the pain that people do whenever this dates comes around every year. I try to make September 11th really more of a happy day because not only is my dads birthday on September 11th, but so is one of my closest friends. I watched a document on 9/11 just yesterday and it is really sad to see the terrorists thinking that they are "helping" their country. It is the most twisted thing.

People are still scared to go on airplanes on 9/11 because they are scared of a reunion of some sort may happen. The security has gotten so much tighter since the happening of 9/11, and i think that is a good thing. It is always better to be safe than sorry. My overall opinion is basically the same as the articles, because i can really relate to her. September 11th is my dad and best friends birthday, and 9/11 is a horrific day that will always be remembered.

On September 11 I was in my elementary school classroom having a regular day. Suddenly my principle came into the class and told my teacher to turn the TV on. We all saw the destruction of the twin towers right before our eyes. Some of the adults were crying and some were calling relatives. I didn’t know what was going on. I will remember that day for the rest of my life. On that day time stood still as everyone came to the realization of what was happening. Nothing like what happened on 9-11 has ever happened in the United States before. Emotions varied between sadness and anger. And because of the actions of a few men on those planes the lifestyle of every American will change.
Most people didn’t know anybody that died that day, but those who did deserve a day to remember. But for the rest of us, life must go on. How long can we be afraid to get on a plane and sit next to someone who looks like that are from Iraq or Pakistan? Security in the airports are necessary to a certain extent, but to single out a person for how they look is going to far. Every aspect of life was changed that day and it very few people realize that a few men don’t represent the mass. In all parts of the world there are good people and bad people, no one should be judged by how they look.

This article brings up an interesting point about this day being viewed as two separate days. One half is the anniversary of one of the worst days in American history, the other is just September 11 and nothing else. I believe the perspective of American citizens, in a way, is quite similar. I'm not saying that half of Americans don't feel the horrific evil and sadness that took place nine years ago. It is the people that knew someone on the plane that crashed into the building, knew one of those people falling 80 stories to their death, knew one of the thousands of people trapped in the building that came crashing to the ground that truly feel remorse of these events. Everyday they are reminded of what happened when that loved one isn't there with them. Every holiday they are reminded of what happened when that loved one isn't celebrating along with them. These are the people that truly view this day as 9-11. Meanwhile, the rest of the public are allowed to go on with their daily lives without much difference. They only think of 9-11 when its Sept. 11 or when they're fussing about all the security in the airport. Yes, they feel the sadness from 9-11, but don't have to go through everyday with that memory stuck in their head. It doesn't have a personal effect on them. 9-11 is a day that no one will forget. I pray that nothing of this magnitude will ever happen again, but history shows that there will always be terrorist. Another attack like 9-11, unfortunately, could easily happen today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this year, or this decade. I hate to be pessimistic, but it's just reality.

When i read this article it made me relize how diffrent the two days 9/11 and september 11th are because september 11th can be glorious to some but to most of america its a total tragdey. Just as the writer said it was one of the best day of thier life and also one of the worst . This article also pointed out to me was that some people get treated better because of their date of birth or their life aspects. The reason i feel this way was because the author of this article said their son went on a cross-country trip and he got stop twice and in both instances he just got a warning the reason he got a warning was because his date of birth was September 11th. In my opinion that was wrong because if it were any other person they would have gotten a ticket but he recived special treatment because of his birthday. Well i do think that another 9/11 attack could happen because if some really had the intentions to harm the united states they could find a way to smuggle it on to an airplane. The sercuity is tight at an airport but as i said " if there a will theres a way!!!".

“One Day, Now Broken in Two” was a great article. Until I read this article I, I never really thought of it as two separate days. Quindlen was definitely right about the two different views of Americans. Some people figured life moves on and so should I. While others are still grieving, still have fears, or still revere this day greatly. For the longest time I was one of those pessimistic people. I never wanted to ride a plane because I thought that it would be flown into a building. After while I became one of those optimists and I figured hey life moves on and so should I. I’m not saying that I don’t revere 9-11. I’m just saying I had to get over my fears. I do understand how there are two different days. My older cousin’s birthday is today September 11 but today is also the anniversary of 9-11, a tragic day for America. She is out celebrating today with her family, but I wonder if she has in the back of her mind the fact that her birthday is the same day as 9-11.

I know it’s going to take lots of time for those families who had lost loved ones to heal. Things have truly changed for the good and bad. The good is that we have a tighter airport security system to insure the safety of all travelers. The bad is that many people have to live with emotional scars. I feel like no matter how much America has moved on, everybody should take the time to respect this day as 9-11 and not just another September 11 that has rolled around. We don’t have to go all out and have a big occasion, but we should just take one moment out of our busy September day and reflect on 9-11 and remember those victims.

I personally thing this essay is really well written essay. She gave the audiance some good points, but it was not really convincing to some people. I am one of the person who was not directly affected by the 9/11 event. Well I don't want to talk about how it affected me on here, but it was just internationally huge event to me which affected me not emotionally(It was some kind of financial).
The 9/11 event was definitely a huge thing to lots of people. Especially people who lost their close people. I felt so bad when my english teacher had to leave Korea to go see her boyfriend. Some people definitely think 9/11 as sad day which people never forget. But some other people just forget about it and enjoying their own life. Today should be the day not to celebrate, to have silent time to think about people who died from it.
We now have some kind of good security system. But I still do think it is not safe now. I am so okay with metal detector, shoes off thing, and also the whole body scanning thing. But I am not sure this can stop terror thing. I do think there can be another thing like 9/11 later. There is not warrenty or some kind of thing like it to make sure it is not going to happen. As we are all human(I do hope everyone is..), we can make mistakes and can think more complicated than others. All we can do is belive government and do what we have to do when see suspicious people. And school has one of the weakest security. School need to be more secured than before. Even though dress code and other things can regulate people's appearance, it can not prevent from doing bad things.
I am kind of negative person. I do not see positively so I can prepare for the bad things which can happen to me. I do see 9/11 as a good lesson. But I dont see that there aren't much stuff which we can do more to stop it from now.

I must say, this essay 'One day, Now Broken In Two', left me stunned. Life does in fact go on, yes, but does that mean we must forget? No. Not at all. Im sure nobody could forget this even if they tried. Some people believe we are better people then we were before. I think in some way were exactly the same, we just had our eyes opened a tad more. Airport security, I think is a must have. I think it should have always been that way. I think America should be doing everything it can to stop anything as catastrophic as this from happening again. People were so stunned after 9/11 because they never thought anything that massive could ever happen to this country. But they were wrong. We were wrong. Another disaster like 9/11 could happen. No one can truly say it wont. But people should contribute as much as they can to prevent it. And if that means getting searched at a airport, at schools, or anywhere else, then so be it. I think we should be more meticulous with things like that. September 11, and 9/11 are two very different things. But at the same time when it all comes down to it, its all the same. Its a very integral day, maybe not the good important to many, but it still matters so very much. Its a reminder to some of all the animosity in the world, all the bad things that can happen, but we should not give up hope that the world is a great place, just with many flaws.

I believe that "One Day, Broken Into Two" was a good article (not great, but good), and it does make some good points coming from the perspective of a mother who celebrates that day, yet also grieves on that day as many Americans do.

The fact is, America has to take precautions to prevent something like that from happening again. Whether it's being searched, taking off your belt and shoes, or just allowing people to take a look into your personal bag...it's all for YOUR safety. (Personally, I've flown on an plane from Phoenix, Arizona and there was a "towelhead" on that flight. He made it through inspection at the airport, but it still scared me. No, I wasn't profiling him based on his ethnicity and dress, but it still had me worried during the whole four hour flight. After we landed though, I felt safe and knew that the airport security had done their job right.)

I believe that schools ought to be the same way. Instances such as the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres are the same thing but on a smaller scale (without having wars declared). People are being killed. Here's an insight - the human mind is a sick, disgusting thing because we can think of things that no other living creature can! For example, the systematic killing of people such as in VA Tech, or even what Hitler did in Europe during WWII. (I knew a kid who committed suicide at his school a few years back. This is a personal example that I think would fuel my point.) People do weird stuff! All this could be avoided if people were to take a few precautions against having weapons or bombs or whatever the hell it is that can be used to cause harm.

Some of the scars of 9/11 have healed. But others left by the hundreds of deaths will not heal. America is an apethetic nation, who are characterized by our disconcern for others except ourselves. Yes, 9/11 brought Americans together in a way that nothing else has before, but now Americans still walk down the streets not even giving a care to anything around them because they are so absorbed with all the crap in their lives such as, (as the writer of "One Day..." said,) our "oversized shoes and KFC". (That line seems a little racist against blacks.) America is now once again divided because some scars from 9/11 have healed and been forgotten about. Maybe another instance such as another 9/11 or massacre or killing would wake up America, shake us to the core, and reunite us. If America were to reunite (and if we were to get these dumb morons out of government) then we could've ended this war a long time ago. (But then again...the world has been at war since God created it. Even when there were just Adam and Eve on Earth - there was still conflict.)

I agree with the points that were written down in "One Day, Now Broken Into Two". There can be some days that call for the utmost reverence and celebration, yet somewhere in the world, even in America or next door to you, someone could be mourning a terrible loss as you celebrate. Everyone has a different story, which is a key aspect into the unity of America - all the different background and stories.

I believe that One Day, Now Broken in Two was a really well written article. The whole time that I was reading it I was getting chills from the writing. I do believe that the world is now split in two, there is no doubt in my mind that this is true. There is a big difference between September 11th, and 9/11. September 11th is someones anniversary or birthday but 9/11 is a day that our generation will never forget. Hopefully the generations after us will never be able to forget the date either. I can still remember what I was doing and who I was with when I found out about 9/11 even though I was just in elementary school. This is one memory that I do not think I will ever be able to get out of my brain. Thankfully though because of how strict airport security is I do not think that there can be another 9/11. You now have to take off your shoes, belt, jacket/sweatshirt, empty your pockets, and have all of your carry on items go through a metal detector and sometimes even searched. You also have to go through a metal detector and sometimes even after you go through the metal detector you still get pat down by the security guards to make sure you are not hiding anything in your clothes. I do not have a problem with doing all of these things if it means that I will be safe on the plane ride. 9/11 was a terrible day that never should have happened, but it did happen and all Americans have to deal with the consequences of what happened. Tomorrow will be a very somber day for all of America.
